St. Cloud Intern Reflection, Summer 2025

I am a rising sophomore at University of Chicago, planning to major in business economics. I have been interested in finance since I was young but it wasn’t until I furthered this passion through starting a sports card business that I realized I wanted to work in finance as a career. My business taught me a lot about the importance of relationships and teamwork, both of which I had a great deal of experience with through my years of club, high school, and now collegiate sports as the kicker for UChicago’s football team. With this desire to pursue a career in finance I came across St. Cloud’s educational internship program.

Working for St. Cloud was my first internship and looking back on it I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to the finance world. I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge during my internship—not only through the projects I worked on, but also by immersing myself in the
team’s discussions and absorbing insights from their day-to-day conversations. Sitting in on the weekly meetings as well as portfolio company and potential client calls gave me valuable insight in showing me the decision making process of experienced investors. It also gave me the opportunity to pick up on general industry and financial knowledge. During the internship I conducted industry and company research for due diligence, created and  updated company financial reports, evaluated tariff impact on portfolio company’s, worked on St. Cloud’s  quarterly LP update, and composed potential investment reports.

I want to express my thanks to Managing Partners Ben Hom, Kacy Rozelle, and Robert Lautz for allowing me to intern with St. Cloud, and to Andrew Sun, Cordell Gee, David Bao, Sheila Emami, and Tami Brinson for their mentorship and continued support. Overall I took away so much from this internship and the experience, knowledge, and perspective gained will be instrumental in preparing me for life after graduation.
